The Member for South West Coast has written a letter to Health Minister Jenny Mikakos and says people are trying to do the right thing and get on top of dental problems before
they get to the emergency stage.
“But they are told that they will have to wait for two year, or come back when it’s at an emergency level,”
“Not only does this leave the patient in discomfort for long periods of time, it also creates an increased burden on the public dental system. Preventative dental work done early is always cheaper.”
Ms Britnell says the State Government had partnered with the Federal Government to deliver an improved school dental program which is aimed at easing the pressure on the public dental system as children are taught good oral health and issues are found early.
“But that pressure won’t be eased for some years and it doesn’t help the people who are want to book an appointment before their dental problem gets worse,”
“With some of the worst waiting list lengths for public dental in our region, it’s time for Health Minister Jenny Mikakos to take action to fix this growing problem.”
