As the weather starts to warm up, the Warrnambool Surf Life Saving Club is ready to start patrol season tomorrow, beginning with weekend patrols of Warrnambool's Main Beach until Christmas.

The weekday patrols will not start until after Christmas.

Club Captain Jo McDowell says they are ready to go for what is shaping as a busy season.

"we've got lots of volunteers ready to go to come out on the beach"

She also cautioned swimmers ahead of Summer.

"We'd prefer if people could swim between the flags and also never swim alone,"

"Particularly on days where we might not be there so be really cautious and make sure you have people with you when you're out in the water."

"People have been out of the water for a little while and so we're encouraging them to just be careful and mindful that their skill level might not be the same as they thought,"

"In terms of younger children, we're encouraging them to go back and get swimming lessons again and also we've got our Nippers program starting up so that's a good opportunity to gain some surf skills."
